Year 5

 Year 5 Summer Overview

In the Summer term we have the whole school focus on ‘Our Environment’. This allows us to explore both History and Geography alongside many other curriculum subjects. We have planned the exciting topics of Vikings, Dragons, Jabberwocky, local history and endangered local animals.

Over the course of the term in the wider curriculum, we will be looking at animals and plants and their life cycles. In combination with our PSHE lessons, we will be discussing puberty and physical changes. In PE and games, we will be looking at orienteering and athletics. In DT, we have an exciting opportunity to explore CAMs in a secondary school workshop as well as producing a salad that we can take to eat on the Wirral Way as part of learning the importance of a healthy lifestyle. In RE, we have an exciting trip to the Wirral Deen Centre to consolidate our work on Islam; moving on to thinking deeply about the Christian concepts of Holy Communion and Discipleship. In Art we will be drawing dragons and creating painted hedgehog pebbles. ICT we will be coding our new school robots and continuing our focus on e-safety.

To support your child with their learning, you could help them to learn their year 5/6 spellings (national curriculum requirement) as these will be imperative to your child’s writing next year. Any additional reading around our topics would be great.
