Writing

At St. Bridget’s, our vision for teaching writing is to develop confident, creative, and capable writers who can express themselves with clarity and imagination. Throughout their journey with us, children will learn to write fluently and with engaging detail across a range of topics and subjects, making purposeful connections across the curriculum.

We aim to nurture a vivid imagination in every child, encouraging them to craft writing that captures the interest of their readers. Through a focus on developing a rich vocabulary and a strong understanding of writing techniques, pupils will learn how to enhance their descriptions and extend the impact of their work.

Our teaching supports children in creating well-organised and structured writing, using a variety of sentence types to add interest and clarity. Alongside composition, we place strong emphasis on transcription skills—ensuring writing is neatly presented, accurately punctuated, and correctly spelled.

Ultimately, we strive to instil a lasting love of writing. Whether for educational, cultural, or entertainment purposes, we want our pupils to recognise the power and joy of the written word, and to value writing as a meaningful form of self-expression and communication.
