Welcome to St Bridget's C of E Primary School
19-7-24
Dear Parents/Carers,
The end of the school year has arrived and I wish you all an enjoyable summer. The last week has been very exciting. On Wednesday the weather was perfect and we finally had our whole school photograph taken. It is always a huge task trying to ensure that all of the children and staff are looking the right way, but it is also a very enjoyable occasion and a great memory. Details of how to buy the photo have been sent home and orders will be sent to school for September. We will remind you again in September.
This week the year six led their Leaver’s Service. They were fantastic, sharing poetry, songs and memories of their time at St. Bridget’s. They are a wonderful group of talented children and in our end of year assembly we celebrated some of their talents with our end of year cup presentations. As they leave our school I have urged them to remain curious, open to new ideas and to always be kind.
Chess Update
We have come to the end of another year of chess in our school. This one has arguably been our most successful with a range of trophies and shields being awarded over the last two weeks.
In the annual chess league for the Wirral we won the U8, U9 and U11 categories. The children compete regularly at Ladymount over the year and in order to win the league it requires dedication and consistency.
We also attended the annual St George's competition which is always well attended by very competitive schools from the Liverpool region. Lots of high-level chess players from all over the country attend and frequently talk about how it is the best youth chess event in the UK. This year we set a competition record and won gold in every age category (U11, U10, U9 and U8). We were particularly impressed by the respect of all our pupils and the maturity of our Year 6 team who supported the younger years throughout the day. Link to results
Well done to all of our chess players for an outstanding year and thank you to the parents who have supported the children to achieve such wonderful outcomes.
Well done – Fred (Year 4)
Well done to Fred who was recently shortlisted as a finalist for BBC Springwatch's Junior Wildlife Hero Award. There was a short clip of him on the programme carrying out his 'frog rescue patrol' and he's really proud to have been nominated as a finalist. When I spoke to him he estimated that he has saved over 500 frogs that have been trapped in storm drains.
Well done - English National Fell Running Championships
Teams and children from far and wide took part on a steep and rough course in the Clwydian Hills. Well done to Bronwen (Year 4) who was 10th in the U11 girls race and well done to Daisy (Year 6) who finished 3rd in the U13 race.
School Awards
This term through the hard work of staff we have been awarded the Inclusion Quality Mark, the Hedgehog Friendly school Award (no sight of hedgehogs yet though!) and most recently, the Heritage Schools Award for History. These awards recognise the broad reach of our curriculum and encouragement to children to take interest in the world around them.
Walk to school Update no. 2
Thank you for all of your support with our walking to school. Not only is it a healthy way to come to school it has many other benefits as well. The table below shows our community efforts and commitment is high.

And Finally, something for September – Attendance - Link to letter from Assistant Director for Education
I am sharing a link to a letter form the Assistant Director form Education. In this information he outlines the importance of attendance to school and reminds parents about their responsibilities to ensure their child attends school. This is a national priority and schools are under a duty to take poor attendance very seriously. While our school has generally very good attendance I would urge to read this letter, which includes information about an increase in fines.
