Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome Back
Welcome back! I hope you all had a restful and chocolate-filled Easter break. It has been wonderful to see the children return with such energy, ready for a busy and exciting summer term.
The Great Outdoors: OPAL Play & 10 Tons of Fun
This week marked the official "full launch" of our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) initiative at lunchtime, and what a start it has been! The highlight has undoubtedly been our brand-new sandpit. Moving 10 tons of sand was no small feat, and I want to extend a massive thank you to the dedicated school staff who rolled up their sleeves to make it happen. It has been a genuine joy to watch children of all ages mixing so naturally, collaborating on den building, getting creative with drawing, and masterminding elaborate structures with large brick play. Seeing the playground transformed into a hub of imaginative play is exactly what we hoped to achieve.
Year 1 Phonics Workshops
Our Year 1 classrooms were even busier than usual this week! It was lovely to welcome so many parents into school to see our phonics teaching in action. We hope these sessions provided a helpful insight into how we support your children's early reading and writing—thank you for your continued partnership.
Important: Transition to the Compass App
We are currently in the process of migrating to our new Management Information System (MIS), Compass. To date, we have only had 100 people log in. If you haven't done so yet, please search your inbox for our recent email and follow the instructions to get set up.
It is vital that all families gain access as soon as possible. Over the coming weeks, we will be moving away from ParentPay. All bookings and payments for clubs, school trips, and dinner money will be handled exclusively through Compass.
A Respectful Request: Parking
While we want to keep the focus on our students' excitement, I must share a quick reminder about parking around the school site. We have received several reports from our neighbours regarding vehicles parked on zig-zag lines and double yellow lines. These markings are there for one reason: the safety of your children. Parking on them limits visibility for pedestrians and other drivers, creating avoidable risks. Please show consideration for our local residents and help us keep our school gates safe for everyone.
Digital Wellbeing: A Guide for Parents
I would like to draw your attention to a recent review from the Children’s Commissioner regarding the safe use of technology. Navigating the digital world can be a minefield, and this guide offers excellent discussion points for families.
One message in particular resonated with us: the role of a parent in a child’s digital life cannot be outsourced. As much as filters and settings help, our active engagement and conversation are what keep them safe. You can find the full guide here: What I Wish My Parents Knew.
Community Corner: May Fair 2026
Looking ahead to the upcoming Bank Holiday, please check the school website for details on the Friends of Ashton Park May Fair. It’s set to be a fantastic community day on Monday, 4th May from 10am–4pm.
The event takes place at Ashton Park and Westbourne Hall on Westbourne Road. Admission is free, though donations are welcome. Some of the attractions include:
A Children’s Fair in the Upper Park and a Bouncy Elephant.
Donkey Rides and a Vikings display.
Food stalls featuring Just Caribbean, Crepes, and Pizzas.
Model Boats on the lake and Free Tennis coaching.
Refreshments in the Hall, plus a tea shop for hot/cold drinks and ice lollies.
PTA News: An Easter Success!
A huge congratulations to our fantastic PTA and the entire school community. This year’s Easter Raffle was a spectacular success, raising over £1,100 for the school! Thank you to everyone who donated gifts, organized the draw, and, of course, bought tickets. Your generosity directly benefits the children's experience here at school. Well done to all our lucky winners!
