F2 Medium Term Plan and Overview– Summer 1

Come outside

We are going to the zoo zoo zoo!

Down with the Dino’s

We still have so much learning to cover with our Come outside theme that we will be starting the term off continuing to learn about Spring and new life. We will be going out on our Spring walks and looking for the changes in our local environment and also be learning about the life cycles of frogs, butterflies and chicks.

Our two focus texts that we did not cover last term will be:

  •        The very hungry caterpillar
  •        What the ladybird heard

Our next theme will be We are going to the zoo zoo zoo! This theme will give us opportunities to look at:

  •        Different zoo animals and their habitats / lifestyles
  •        The role of a zoo keeper and the jobs they do to help the animals
  •        Looking at where some of the animals would live around the world in their natural habitats
  •        Looking at endangered animals and why these animals are in danger and what we can do to help

During this theme we will have opportunities to role play both in the classroom and outside, we will have a jungle themed den for the children to explore. We will spend lots of time getting creative within this theme with observational drawings, coffee art, DT models, paintings and collage.

We will have various focussed texts which we will read regularly to the children and lots of activities and challenged will be planned based on these books.

  •        Dear Zoo
  •        Giraffes can’t dance
  •        There’s a rang-tan in my bedroom
  •        Non fiction texts linked

Our third and final theme will be down with Dinos, this is always very popular with our little dinosaur lovers and we will cover many activities and challenges that will excite the children in all areas of the Foundation Stage Curriculum. This theme will be based on children’s interests and we have lots of exciting things planned which will hopefully leave the children gripped as well as learning lots about different types of dinosaurs, extinction and fossils.

We will have various focussed texts which we will read regularly to the children and lots of activities and challenged will be planned based on these books.

  •        How to catch a dinosaur
  •        10 naughty dinosaurs
  •        Dear Dinosaur

This summer term will be also be beginning to prepare the children for their transition to year one so we will be will be having high expectations and will still be constantly revisiting and reviewing our school values and how they link to these high expectations and behaviour in school.

We cover so much week in week out that it is very difficult to mention every area or objective for all of our areas learning. Therefore, Miss Cotterell and Mrs Neal will keep you updated weekly via TAPESTRY with specific details of what we have been focusing on in our classroom for maths, literacy, phonics, understanding the world, expressive arts and design or RE etc so that you know what you can work on with your child at home.
