EYFS

 F2 Overview– Summer 1

Come outside

We still have so much learning to cover with our Come outside theme that we will be starting the
term off continuing to learn about Spring and new life. We will be learning about the life cycles of
frogs, butterflies and chicks and life on the farm / new animals. Our focus texts that we did not
cover last term will be:
● The very hungry caterpillar
● What the ladybird heard
We are also going to have our own class caterpillars to watch the life cycle in real life. We hope
that the children will enjoy looking after them and watching them change and grow.
We are going to the zoo zoo zoo!
Our next theme will be We are going to the zoo zoo zoo! This theme will give us opportunities to
look at:
● Different zoo animals and their habitats / lifestyles
● The role of a zoo keeper and the jobs they do to help the animals
● Looking at where some of the animals would live around the world in their natural
habitats
● Looking at endangered animals and why these animals are in danger and what we can do
to help
During this theme we will have opportunities to role play both in the classroom and outside, we
will have a jungle themed den for the children to explore. We will spend lots of time getting
creative within this theme with observational drawings, coffee art, DT models, paintings and
collage. We will have various focussed texts which we will read regularly to the children and lots of
activities and challenged will be planned based on these books.
● Dear Zoo
● Giraffes can’t dance
● There’s a rang-tan in my bedroom
● Non fiction texts linked
We have planned a trip to Greencares Farm at the end of the half term which will be a lovely end
to learning about zoo and farm animals. A separate letter regarding this will be sent out this week.
This summer term we will also be beginning to prepare the children for their transition to year one
and will still be constantly revisiting and reviewing our school values and how they link to these
high expectations and behaviour in school.
Please continue to check tapestry weekly to see what we have been learning about in every area of
learning as we cover so much week in week out.

F2 Medium Term Plan and Overview – Summer 2 Happy and Healthy!

Fun at the seaside!

With sports day being our first week back we are going to have a mini theme called Happy and Healthy! This theme will give us opportunities to look at:

  • We will revisit our feelings and emotions and how this is important for a happy mind.

We will spend lots of time keeping active and setting up challenges for the children such as exercise circuits and obstacle courses.

We will have various focussed texts which we will read regularly to the children and lots of activities and challenged will be planned based on these books.

The Runaway Pea
Supertato / Evil Pea
Non fiction texts linked

Our final theme for the academic year will be Fun at the Seaside and this will also have links to children’s interests as we have children who have shown a real interest in pirates, mermaids and sea creatures so this last theme will allow us to spend time looking at all of these areas too.

We will have an under the sea cave for the children to explore and a pirate ship in the outdoor classroom! We are also going to arrange a trip to the beach and this will have links to our 200 year celebration of St. Bridget's Primary School.
During this longer theme we will have opportunities to looks at :

  • Sun safety and why it is very important to stay safe in the sun
  • Holidays and children’s experiences of going on holiday
  • Life under the sea and facts about different sea creatures
  • Protecting the sea creatures linked to litter and recycling
  • Pirate facts and link to fiction and non-fiction

There will be lots of fiction stories linked to this theme but we will also have specific linked texts which we will spend time looking at more carefully and planning challenges and activities linked to these.

These will be:
  • Someone swallowed Stanley
  • Rainbow Fish
  • Sharing a shell
  • Commotion in the ocean
  • Non fiction texts linked

We will also spend lots of time working very closely with the year one staff to ensure that the children are happy and excited about their move to year one. The year one teachers will be visiting our room lots and the children will also visit their new classrooms.
We cover so much week in week out that it is very difficult to mention every area or objective for all of our areas learning. Therefore, Miss Cotterell and Mrs Neal will keep you updated weekly via TAPESTRY with specific details of what we have been focusing on in our classroom so that you know what you can work on with your child at home.
