In geography, we will be exploring the United Kingdom. This involves naming and labelling the countries, capital cities, and surrounding waters. After half term, we move from geography to history to study castles past and present, including those still in use today. Children will learn about key castle structures, attack and defence methods, and the varied roles of people who lived and worked in them. If you get the opportunity to visit a castle with your child, it would be a wonderful way to bring their learning to life.
In science, we will explore seasonal changes. We’ll look at weather patterns across the four seasons, how trees change, variations in daylight hours, and even film our very own weather reports.
For PE, outdoor sessions will focus on fundamental movement skills. In indoor PE, children will perform a seasonal dance during Autumn 1, followed by a medieval/war dance in Autumn 2.
Our art and design technology work will focus on drawing skills, taking inspiration from famous artists such as Bridget Riley and Paul Klee.
Across the whole curriculum—and especially in RE and PSHE—we refer to our school mission statement: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself’. In RE, we will learn about Christianity and Judaism, exploring who is considered special in these faiths and how we can embody those positive qualities. We will also be busy rehearsing our varied roles for the upcoming Christmas service.
