MFL

At St. Bridget’s, our vision for teaching languages is to inspire a love of language learning and to equip every child with the skills and confidence to communicate effectively in another language. Throughout their journey with us, pupils will develop the ability to speak with clear intonation and accurate pronunciation, allowing them to express themselves confidently and naturally.

Reading and writing in a new language are central to our approach. We aim for fluency in reading and encourage creativity and imagination in writing, enabling children to communicate ideas with both accuracy and flair. Our teaching provides a balance of structured learning and opportunities for spontaneous use of language.

Cultural understanding plays a vital role in our language curriculum. We want our pupils to develop a strong awareness of the customs, traditions, and values of the countries where the language is spoken. This enriches their learning experience and helps them grow into respectful, curious global citizens.

We strive to instil a lasting passion for languages and a commitment to the subject. Children are encouraged to use language creatively and spontaneously, building their independence as learners. They are supported in developing the skills to draw upon a wide range of resources, both within and beyond the classroom, as they take ownership of their language journey.

Ultimately, our goal is for every child to leave St. Bridget’s with confidence in their language abilities, an appreciation for cultural diversity, and the enthusiasm to continue exploring languages in the future.
