Geography

At St. Bridget’s, our vision for geography is to develop curious, knowledgeable, and thoughtful learners who have a deep understanding of the world around them. Throughout their journey with us, our children will gain an excellent knowledge of where places are and what they are like, both locally and globally. This foundation helps them make meaningful connections between different places and cultures.

We aim to ensure pupils develop a strong understanding of how human and physical environments are interrelated, and how places are interconnected and interdependent. Through this, they begin to see the world as a complex, dynamic system shaped by a range of influences.

Our curriculum builds an extensive base of geographical knowledge and vocabulary. Children will become fluent in complex geographical enquiry, using questioning skills and applying effective analytical and presentational techniques. They will be supported to reach clear conclusions and develop reasoned arguments, demonstrating their ability to think critically and explain their findings confidently.

Creativity and originality are also key to our vision. Pupils are encouraged to show imagination in how they interpret and represent geographical subject matter. Fieldwork and practical geographical skills are central to their experience, helping them to apply their learning in real-world contexts through observation, data collection, and analysis.

Ultimately, we aim to foster a genuine passion for geography. Our children will develop a strong commitment to the subject and a deep curiosity about the world and the people who live in it. They will be able to express well-balanced, informed opinions about contemporary issues in society and the environment, demonstrating both empathy and insight.
