Year 2

Year 2 Summer Overview

During summer term in Year 2 we have introduced the theme ‘Our Environment’ to the children. The children have developed an awareness for the need to look after our environment.

We have studied Beatrix Potter as an author and an artist. Through our geography we have located the Lake District where she lived and worked. In computing we have used ipads as a digital device to take photographs. This has enabled the children to develop their editing and media effect skills. In science we have been exploring the topic of plants, seeds and bulbs.

For the second half term, our focus will be on bees. Children will create a non-fiction information booklet where they will learn about the jobs of a bee, the parts of a bee and how to create a bee-friendly environment.

In Geography we will be studying our local environment particularly our school and its land use. We will also be studying Ashton Park in the past and present (we hope to visit the park to enhance children’s learning). In D.T. our topic is food, we will be teaching the children food hygiene and safety. We will be making a healthy snack.
In art, to finish our topic of bees we will be making a detailed sculpture of a bee.

If you have any interesting facts or knowledge about bees and Ashton Park, that may help the year group, please email you child’s class teacher. We would love to hear from you.
