The vision of art in our school is to nurture students who are confident and expressive in their use of visual language. This includes the skilful and convincing use of elements such as line, shape, pattern, colour, texture, and form to express emotions, interpret observations, convey insights, and highlight their individuality.
We aim for students to develop the ability to communicate fluently through both visual and tactile forms. They should be able to draw confidently and adventurously from observation, memory, and imagination, exploring and inventing marks as they develop and deconstruct ideas.
Our students are encouraged to communicate perceptively and powerfully through purposeful drawing, whether in 2D, 3D, or digital media. A strong knowledge and understanding of other artists, craft-makers, and designers underpins this process, enabling students to think and act like creative practitioners.
We value independence, initiative, and originality, supporting students in using these qualities to enhance their creative development. They are guided in selecting and using materials, processes, and techniques both skilfully and inventively, embracing unexpected outcomes as part of the creative journey.
Finally, we foster the ability to reflect on, analyse, and critically evaluate both their own work and the work of others. Above all, we aim to instil a lasting passion for and commitment to the subject of art.
