Foundation 2

Foundation 2 Curriculum

Our first topic this term will be ‘Super me and Super you’. During this topic, the children will be discussing families and getting to know each other. They will talk about their hobbies, favourite food, pets and a range of other things about themselves. We will be helping the children learn that each and every one of us are different and our families are different but that makes us all very special and unique. The role play area will be set up as a home and children’s play will reinforce familiar routines at home and interaction with others. We will also set up a role play ‘school’ for the children to explore and develop what we have been learning in class. There will be a big focus on communication and language – specifically speaking and listening.

We will begin to look at the changes in the seasons from Summer to Autumn.

As children have come from different settings, most will have missed opportunities for social interaction in their very early years due to covid and the fact that starting ‘big school’ is a huge change for them all, a big focus will also be on PSED. We as the adults will be initiating and engaging in purposeful play, by creating, modelling, extending learning through play.

Most importantly, we ensure the children know their school routine, are making friends and are generally happy and settled in school.

Every week we will cover specific objectives and areas of learning for maths, literacy, phonics, science, RE etc. Miss Cotterell and Mrs Neal will keep you updated weekly via TAPESTRY with specific details of what we have been focusing on in our classroom so that you know what you can work on with your child at home.

Foundation 2 Curriculum overview Autumn 2

Our first topic this half term will be ‘Autumn’ but within this we also look at the other three seasons. We will link to seasons around the world and how they differ from ours. We will be going for local walks in small groups and looking closely at the environment we live in. We will be spending time looking at the changes that are taking place in the seasons and why this is happening. We will have our very own
‘treehouse’ in the school role play for the children top explore, use their imagination and investigate. In the outdoor classroom children will be using our ‘curiosity cuboid’ to discover things linked to this topic.

There will be links to bonfire night, Diwali and Thanksgiving and a range of activities will be set up to teach children about why some people celebrate these special occasions.

We will be learning about some of the animals that live in our world
especially linked to parks, forests and woods. In particular, will be
looking at hibernation, habitats and nocturnal animals.

Again, there will be a big focus on communication and language –
specifically speaking and listening and PSED – specifically making
relationships and social interaction.

Most importantly, we ensure the children continue to develop their
school routine, are making friends and are happy and settled in school.

Every week we will cover specific objectives and areas of learning for
maths, literacy, phonics, science, RE, music, art and design etc.

Miss Cotterell and Miss Daltrey will keep you updated weekly via TAPESTRY with specific details of what we have been focusing on in our classroom so that you know what you can work on with your child at home.
