Dear Parents and Carers,
School Newsletter: Term Time Update
It has been another whirlwind of a week at school! From scientific explosions to celebrating a national treasure, our pupils have been truly immersed in their learning.
Highlights from the Week
Welcome to our New CEO We were delighted to welcome our new CEO, Sara Lawrenson, to the school this week. She spent time meeting our wonderful staff and children and enjoyed seeing the school in action. It was a fantastic opportunity to showcase the vibrant atmosphere and hard work that happens here every day.
Excellence in Maths Our reputation for high-quality teaching continues to grow! We hosted a group of visiting teachers who came specifically to observe our Maths lessons. We are proud to report they were incredibly impressed by our approach and the engagement of the pupils.
Chemistry, Libraries, and a Centenarian Celebration
-
Year 5 had a "fascinating" time exploring science with Professor Wilson. Their "Chemistry with Cabbage" day was a huge hit, proving that science is often best learned when it's a little bit messy!
-
Year 4 enjoyed a productive visit to the local library, continuing our focus on fostering a lifelong love of reading.
-
As a school, some of the classes watched a live interview with Sir David Attenborough to celebrate his landmark 100th birthday. It was an inspiring moment for the children to hear from such a dedicated champion of our planet.
A Silver Success for Sustainability
We are absolutely delighted to announce that our school has been awarded the Modeshift Silver Award for our commitment to sustainable travel! This is a fantastic achievement that reflects our collective effort to reduce our carbon footprint and promote healthier ways of getting to school. A huge thank you to all the families and children who have supported our travel initiatives—whether you are walking, cycling, or scooting, you are making a real difference to our environment and our school community.
OPAL Play: Strengthening our Lunchtimes
Our OPAL (Outdoor Play and Learning) initiative continues to go from strength to strength. The feedback from both parents and children regarding the improved lunchtime experience has been overwhelmingly positive.
To keep the momentum going safely, we held a reminder for the children today about the importance of using equipment carefully and taking collective responsibility for tidying up their play zones. We have also introduced the "Opal Hospital"—a dedicated collection point where children can place broken toys or items. This allows us to assess whether things can be mended or if they need to be safely disposed of.
Understanding Attendance and Support
Regular attendance is vital for your child’s progress. We want to ensure all parents are aware of the current Wirral Attendance guidelines:
-
Legal Responsibility: Parents are legally responsible for ensuring children aged 5 to 18 receive suitable full-time education.
-
The "10-Week Rule": Under the August 2024 framework, schools must consider a penalty notice if a child has 10 sessions (approx. 5 days) of unauthorized absence within a rolling 10-week period.
-
Term-Time Holidays: These must be requested via a "leave of absence" form and are only authorized in exceptional circumstances by the headteacher.
-
Penalty Notices: A first offense costs £160 per pupil, per parent (reduced to £80 if paid within 21 days). A second offense within three years is a non-reducible flat rate of £160.
-
Support is Available: If your child is struggling with attendance due to health, SEND, or anxiety, please reach out to our SENCO or the Inclusion Team. We are here to help through collaborative support and specialized resources.
For more details, you can visit our dedicated Attendance & Absence page.
A Respectful Request: Parking
I must reiterate our request for considerate parking around the school site. We have received further mentions from our neighbours regarding poor parking on zig-zag lines and double yellow lines.
These restrictions are not suggestions—they are essential safety measures to ensure clear sightlines for our children. Please help us maintain a safe environment and a positive relationship with our local community by parking legally and safely.
