EYFS

F2 Overview – Spring 1 2026

Terrific tales and terrific jobs

We are going to be very busy this half term with lots of learning and exciting themes. Our first theme will be terrific jobs looking at important people who help us. This will allow us to also have a little introduction to gender equality. For example, who can be a vet, a nurse, a farmer, fire officer etc? We will have
discussions about children’s thoughts but then make sure that children understand that it does not matter what our gender is, if we want to be something and set our minds to it then we can achieve whatever we want to achieve. We will also look at two very famous women Mary Seacole and Florence Nightingale and discuss why these two women are still remembered today.
During this theme we will have lots of opportunities to role play both in the classroom and outside, we will have a fire station, vets, doctors and post office. We will be having many discussions about job roles and how their job roles help us and why they are so important. We will have two focussed texts which we will read regularly to the children and lots of activities and challenges will be planned based on these books.
● A real superhero like you – Dr Ranj
● Real superheroes, a celebration of key workers – Julia Seal
Our second theme will be terrific tales where we will have the chance to immerse ourselves into a range of fairy tales and we will cover many activities and challenges that will excite the children in all areas of the Foundation Stage Curriculum. For example, we will have our very own ‘Fairy tale Palace’ in the school role play for the children to explore, use their imagination and investigate. Our investigation station will be set up as a potions lab for the children to use their Witch or Wizardry skills to write recipes, mix potions and tell stories. In the outdoor classroom children will be using our ‘large scale construction’ to build things linked to this theme. This theme will also allow us to plan through the children’s interests and we will cover many areas of learning such as literacy, learning about traditional tales and thinking of story openers, characters and storylines or history links by looking at castles, kings and queens. We will also teach children about social justice during this theme, for example, was Cinderella treated fairly? Did Jack have the right to steal from the giant? Did Goldilocks behave appropriately?
Again there will be a big focus on communication and language – specifically developing storytelling and narrative.
A main priority is still to ensure the children continue to be happy and settled in school and show our school values on a daily basis. We constantly revisit and review our school values and how they link to expectations and behaviour in school.
There will be links to Chinese New Year and a range of activities will be set up to teach children about why some people celebrate this special occasion.
We cover so much week in week out that it is very difficult to mention every area or objective for all of our areas of learning. Therefore, Miss Cotterell and Mrs Neal will keep you updated weekly via TAPESTRY with specific details of what we have been focusing on in our classroom for maths, literacy, phonics,
understanding the world, expressive arts and design or RE etc so that you know what you can work on with your child at home.

F2 Medium Term Plan and Overview– Spring 2 2026

Terrific tales / Come outside!

We will be kick starting this half term continuing with our theme of Terrific Tales. The children have been
so engaged and excited by our learning of this theme, we have decided to continue for a further few weeks.
We will be continuing to join in with repeated phrases in well known traditional tales, taking on the roles
of different characters to say how they feel when certain things happen, using small world and role play
to retell stories in our own words and using our phonic skills to write speech bubbles for characters / write
sentences about stories we are learning about.
There will be plenty of construction / art work using oil pastels to shade and blend when we colour pictures
and using the water colour paints.
Our second and main theme will be Come Outside! With the weather hopefully changing we will look at
the changes between Winter and Spring and this will lead us in many directions giving us the
opportunities to look at:
● the growth of plants and flowers / life cycle
● planting of seeds and watching the changes that take place plus making predictions on what we
think will happen – also linked to the growth of the children’s beans linked to Jack and the
Beanstalk
● looking at our local environment and observing the changes in weather / seasons
● new life linked to animals and plants

During this theme we will have lots of opportunities to role play both in the classroom and outside, we will
have a farm shop and garden centre for the children to explore. Our investigation station will be bursting
with opportunities for the children to observe, discuss, predict and share their thoughts and opinions. We
will have various focussed texts which we will read regularly to the children and lots of activities and
challenged will be planned based on these books.
● The Tiny Seed
● Rosie’s Walk
● Rooster around the world
● The little red hen
● Non fiction texts linked
We will also be spending time thinking about Easter and the meaning of Easter to Christians. We will still
constantly revisit and review our school values and how they link to expectations and behaviour in school.
Please check tapestry weekly - an overview with pictures and a write up of the week will go on the memo
section every Friday evening for you to keep informed of our learning. This is a really good talking point
for you at home, especially if your little one does not give you much information about what they have
been up to at school! This is also a good way for you to continue any learning at home, should you wish to
do so.
We also look forward to seeing you for our second discover and do session in school with us this half term,
a great way to see your child’s progress, development and spend time with your child in their school
environment.
Thank you for your continued support in your child’s learning journey.
