Chess

Chess in Year 3 and 4 and Chess Club

Chess is taught as part of the curriculum for Year 3 and 4 children.  Mr Carr, who is both a teacher and a chess coach, delivers this to the children.  All children in these year groups receive tuition in chess as part of the curriculum.  The rationale for this is that there is a clear link in learning how to play chess and the development of reasoning and thinking that supports learning.  We have run chess in our curriculum several years and increasingly see the positive effects it has on our children.

In addition , Mr Graham Carr runs a chess club. The club takes place after school on a Thursday for children in Years 5 and 6. In recent years the chess club has been successful at a number of local competitions, but more importantly the children have developed a real passion and desire to play a good level of chess.

If you wish your child to join the club, please contact the office and if there is a place available, it will be offered to them.
